Hailing from the Cambridgeshire village of Upwood and formed in February 2014 with the accent on having fun and making music together, Upwood Ukuleles have gone from strength to strength, playing at an ever increasing variety of events ranging from WIs and Day Centres to private parties and formal concerts. They have also performed on Radio Cambridgeshire and regional radio on several occasions.
Upwood Ukuleles include a wide assortment of musical styles and instruments in their shows. As well as the whole range of ukuleles from piccolo to bass, don't be surprised to hear kazoos, recorders, trombone, bowed psaltery and various percussion instruments including the cajon. Audience participation is encouraged, so warm up your vocal chords ready to join in with songs ranging from George Formby classics, through 1960s novelty numbers, to current chart hits.
Upwood Ukuleles have now issued their debut CD, entitled: "Onwood and Upwood", containing 11 of their top tunes and will be releasing their Christmas album: "Upwood Ukuleles - With Bells On" at the beginning of December 2018. All proceeds from the sale of the CDs go to Magpas Air Ambulance.
Upwood Ukuleles do not usually charge a performance fee as such but do request a suitable donation to their designated charity, Magpas Air Ambulance, in lieu of a fee.
