“We would like to thank everyone at Upwood Ukuleles. Your support really is fantastic and very much appreciated.” Debbie Florence, Head of Fundraising, Magpas
Formed in February 2014 with the accent on having fun and making music together, Upwood Ukuleles have gone from strength to strength, playing at an ever increasing variety of events ranging from WIs and Day Centres to private parties and social evenings. They have also performed on Radio Cambridgeshire just before Christmas in 2014 and 2015.
Upwood Ukuleles include a wide assortment of musical styles and instruments in their shows. As well as the whole range of ukuleles from piccolo to bass, don’t be surprised to hear kazoos, harmonicas, recorders and various percussion instruments including the cajon. Audience participation is encouraged so warm up your vocal chords ready to join in with songs ranging from George Formby classics, through 1960s novelty numbers, to current chart hits.
Upwood Ukuleles do not usually charge a performance fee as such but do request a suitable donation to their designated charity, Magpas, in lieu of a fee.
Not all players are available for every performance but we aim to have a minimum of 6 players in order to perform. Some of us play sitting down so we require enough chairs (max 6) plus access to a 13amp socket for the bass ukulele’s amplifier.
